The most complex system we are challenged with trying to understand is the human brain and the experience of consciousness. Cognitive neuroscience is the marriage of two complementary and synergistic fields of study that rise to meet the challenge: cognitive science and neuroscience. By combining the perspectives used in studying the mind and the brain, we are in a better position to unravel the mysteries of consciousness. Of particular interest are the topics that will help in the advancement of research and education itself: attention, learning, and memory. The role of emotion in these areas is another important focus.
